Biography

On September 25, 1982, Hyun-Bin was born in Seoul, South Korea. Kim Tae-Pyung is his true name. He has a sibling that is older. Apart from his remarkable looks, Hyun-childhood Bin’s was quite ordinary. Hyun-Bin had a detective dream by the sixth grade.

When Hyun-Bin was in high school, a senior pupil suggested that he audition for the theater club and work on his acting. Following his performance in the school play, Hyun-Bin came to the conclusion that acting was his calling and something he wanted to pursue professionally. Another fortunate occurrence took place to encourage him to pursue acting. A man once yelled at them to stop as they were riding on the back of a friend’s motorcycle. Hyun-companion Bin’s didn’t stop his motorcycle because he didn’t have a driver’s license at the time. Then, till the road came to an end, the man rode his motorcycle after them. A talent management company employee then gave Hyun-Bin his business card and instructed him to call.

Hyun-Bin spent two years trying to convince his parents to support his ambition to become an actor after they first resisted.

The greatest university for acting, according to his parents, is Chung-Ang University, and if he managed to get into that school, they would support his decision to pursue acting as a career. Fortunately for Hyun-Bin, his parents gave in when he was accepted to Chung-Ang University. Hyun-Bin oversaw the school theater and worked with lighting at Chung-Ang University. He took part in school plays as well.

Hyun-Bin debuted as an actor in the 2003 KBS drama “Bodyguard.” His initial character was merely a supporting one. He portrayed Han Shin-stalker. Ae’s (played by Lee Se-Eun). Hyun-Bin was also chosen for the wildly successful MBC drama “Nonstop 4” in the same year. Hyun-Bin was able to hone his comedic timing through his work on “Nonstop 4”. Hyun-Bin’s performance on “Nonstop 4” caught the attention of renowned screenwriter In Jung-Ok, who had previously written the screenplays for the MBC dramas “Sunflower” and “Ruler of Your Own World.” In Jung-Ok then introduced Hyun-Bin to PD Kim Jin-Man. In Jung-Ok told Kim Jin-Man that she liked the way he talked and thought he was attractive.

The 2004 MBC drama “Ireland,” with a screenplay by In Jung-Ok and director by Kim Jin-Man, will later cast Hyun-Bin in the lead role alongside Lee Na-Young, Kim Min-Jun, and Kim Min-Jung. Although “Ireland” didn’t have exceptionally high ratings, it did develop a sizable cult following and garner favorable reviews. Hyun-Bin portrayed Kang-Guk, a bodyguard in “Ireland,” who constantly tried to aid those in need. With his portrayal of Kang-Guk in “Ireland,” Hyun-Bin gained a lot of female fans.

Hyun-Bin was paired with Kim Sun-A in the 2005 MBC drama “My Name Is Kim Sam-soon.” Hyun-Bin studied the piano before starting work on the show, and he also worked on his icy, cynical delivery.

With ratings above 50%, “My Name Is Kim Sam-soon” became a huge success (one of the highest ratings for a Korean drama series). Because Hyun Jin-Hun, the character played by Hyun-Bin, was written to be somewhat of an ideal man, Hyun-popularity Bin’s among female series viewers increased.

The calm romantic comedy “A Millionaire’s First Love” was chosen by Hyun-Bin as his next project following the massive success of “My Name Is Kim Sam-soon.” A Millionaire’s First Love” had much less of a positive box office and critical reception.

Hyun-Bin played the lead in the 2008 movie “I Am Happy,” which had its world premiere as the Pusan International Picture Festival’s final film. Hyun-Bin claimed that he had a different reaction to the “I Am Happy” scenario. In his role, Hyun-Bin will portray a man who was hospitalized for a mental condition. He admitted to the director that he wasn’t sure he could play the part well before accepting it, but he would try his best. In hindsight, Hyun-Bin’s performance in “I Am Happy” was able to support the growth of both his acting and personal qualities.

Hyun-Bin was chosen to star in the KBS2 drama “Worlds Within” in 2008. In contrast to actress Song Hye-Kyo, who played television PD Ju Jun-Young, he played television PD Jung Ji-Oh. Despite its failure, the drama earned mostly favorable reviews from critics. As a friendship with the lead actress Song Hye-Kyo was created while they were both working on the set, the drama also aided in the development of Hyun-personal Bin’s life. Their romance grew after the drama’s filming was completed, and they began dating in July 2009.

Hyun-Bin was chosen to star in the 2009 MBC drama “Friend, Our Legend,” which is an adaptation of the 2001 smash film “Friend.” Kwak Kyung-Taek, who also directed the original film adaptation of “Friend,” helmed the drama series. Others opposed Hyun-choice Bin’s to play Dong-Su when he made it. Jang Dong-Kun, who played Dong-Su in the original film version, was one individual who did not disagree with his decision. Actually, Hyun-Bin received support and guidance from Jang Dong-Kun before he began working on the drama. However, “Friend, Our Legend” only garnered a 10% approval rating. In response, Hyun-Bin said in interviews that he desired to be acknowledged as an actor and did not want to be judged just on TV numbers.

Hyun-Bin appeared in the 2010 Korean-American production “Late Autumn,” which was a remake of the beloved 1966 Korean film “Late Autumn.” Because he thought the scenario would be entertaining to play, Hyun-Bin chose the film. However, Hyun-Bin was also concerned about the language barrier as the whole movie’s dialogue is in English. After talking with the film’s director Kim Tae-Yong, Hyun-Bin felt more at ease because the character only spent three years in the United States and did not need to speak the language fluently. Hyun-Bin, on the other hand, concentrated on conveying the character’s emotions.

Later in 2010, Hyun-Bin was chosen to star alongside Ha Ji-Won in the SBS romantic comedy “Secret Garden.” Since the mega-hit “My Name Is Kim Sam-soon,” Hyun-Bin hasn’t appeared in a romantic comedy; “Secret Garden” will be his first in five years. In the novel plot twist of “Secret Garden,” Hyun-Bin and Ha Ji-Won switch bodies.

The breakup between actress Song Hye-Kyo and actor Hyun Bin was formally revealed by their respective agencies on March 8, 2011.

1. Hyun-Bin began serving his 21 month military service starting on March 7, 2011. He was then discharged December 6, 2012 after serving 21 months. Hyun-Bin served in the Korean Marines.
